My name is Gable and I’m a Bernese Mountain Dog. My new parents named me after some famous actor named Clark Gable. They told me they named me that because I was devilishly handsome.
Here’s my story: apparently I was born at a puppy mill in Missouri and when I was only a year old, I was sold at a puppy mill auction. I went from a puppy mill in Missouri to a puppy mill in East Texas. I lived in a 10×10 outside pen my entire life. I was used to breed with a female, who lived with me. We were neglected and never bathed, medicated or anything else that would make you a healthy dog. I had never been inside a house or heard inside noises or even been on a walk. I lived at this terrible place for five long years. One day one of the owner’s employees got mad at the owner and shot and killed him. All of the dogs at the mill, and believe me there was every kind imaginable, were wondering what our fate would be. The family of the owner started calling other mills and put a posting on the Internet that we would be sold very cheap.
As fate would have it, two very nice ladies from Texas, who owned Bernese Mountain dogs and worked with Lone Star Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue, heard what was happening and loaded up a van full of crates so they could save as many dogs as possible. They contacted other breed rescue groups as well. The rescue people bought us our freedom. The ride home in the van full of dogs was absolutely silent. We did not know what would happen to us. After we arrived in Lewisville, Texas, one of the nice ladies bathed us, groomed us and took us to a vet. The woman learned after I had been shaved that I was 15 pounds underweight. I had tick disease, parasites in my belly and sores on my skin from thousand of ticks. I was so sick I did not want to eat.
After a few days of being with the lovely lady who rescued me, a new lady came to get me. She had lots of treats and loaded me up in her car. We drove to Dallas, and when we got to her home, she let me inside. She and her husband petted me and loved me and even had a bed for me. It was so strange to receive so much affection. I really didn’t know what it was at first. There were so many new sights and noises and even dog walks. This lady is now my mommy. It’s so nice to be loved! Under their care, I gained all of my weight back, I grew all of my beautiful long fur back and I learned to be loved. They even take me to brunch with them on Sundays. I’m so happy now. Because of my illnesses, I would have eventually died if I had stayed in East Texas.
I get super excited in the mornings. I guess I’m a morning guy. After my morning walk and after I eat breakfast, I plop down to rest for the remainder of the afternoon. Also, I purr, which my parents thought was a growl at first. If you rub my chest or my cheeks, I absolutely love it and then I’ll make the growling purr. I get so excited when my parents come home from work that they instituted a new rule. I have to sit down before they will pet me. I have to admit, I do get a little excited and mommy says I’m like a 103 pound freight train. I’ve never been a star before but mommy says I look like one.
My parents loved me so much they decided to create Furry Freeze. I absolutely loved it. Because I loved it so much, my parents decided to make Furry Freeze for all my furry friends. Please consider purchasing Furry Freeze because not only will your dog love it, with every purchase a portion of the profits go to save other rescue dogs like me. Live, Love, Furry Freeze!
Sincerely,
Gable, as in “Clark”
